Seasonal Grounds Maintenance

Department: Parks and Planning
Location: Wheaton, IL

Deadline: Open until filled

GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for performing routine maintenance and custodial duties at District parks and facilities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Minimum seventeen (17) years of age. Must have good communication and time management skills and be able to work calmly and effectively under pressure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Attendance at work site as scheduled; must be available to work other shifts and overtime as required. Must be available to be reassigned to another division if needed.
  2. Perform minor building and equipment repairs.
  3. Paint and stain District property where needed.
  4. Weed flowerbeds and grounds.
  5. Hardscape and landscape duties.
  6. Safely operate tractor, utility truck, hand tools, power tools, and other machinery as necessary.
  7. Collect garbage and pick up litter in parks.
  8. Path and road maintenance, includes hot & cold patching, gravel road grading, and seal coat.
  9. May be required to work special events.
  10. Wear personal protective equipment for job function when needed.
  11. Maintain effective two-way communication while dealing with concerns in the field with all district staff and immediate supervisor.
  12. Carry two way or cell phone communication at all times while working.
  13. Provide a high quality of customer service in a professional manner to the internal customer that will facilitate team building and exceptional customer service to the external customer.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ETC.

Must have and maintain: valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to: continuously move about the parks and facilities and frequently on uneven ground, repetitive use of hands/arms/legs when using vibrating equipment, move landscaping objects such as sod rolls, fertilizer, grass seed, 5-gallon buckets, etc. weighing up to 50 lbs. and over 50 lbs. with assistance, and eye/hand coordination; frequently position one’s self to climb stairs, ladders, trees, etc. Must be able to drive a vehicle.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Must be able to: handle all weather conditions while traveling between facilities, frequently encounter rain, snow, insects, dirt, poisonous plants, grease, oil, mud; occasional confined spaces, heights over 12 feet, fumes, gases, odors, dust, mold, animal hair, dander, feces, noise over 85 dbls, wet, slippery floors and surfaces; rarely encounter pesticides, chemicals and smoke.

HOURS

Mon-Fri 7:00am-3:00pm

SALARY

$16.00 - $18.00 per hour DOQ

SALARY RANGE

Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum

$15.00 - $18.75 - $22.50
