Group Fitness Instructor - Part-Time

Department: Parks Plus Fitness
Location: Wheaton, IL

GENERAL PURPOSE

This psition is responsible for instructing safe, effective group fitness classes.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in group fitness instruction preferred. Must have knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and physiology. Must have good organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Become knowledgeable in all Fitness Center programs and services and enthusiastically support and promote PPFC membership.
  2. Demonstrate proper exercise and cueing techniques; create choreography for multi-level fitness classes that challenge beginners through advanced exercisers and provide modifications as needed; build patterns logically and create smooth transitions.
  3. Follow daily procedures: read notices, verify participants, track attendance.
  4. Arrive on time (minimum 5 minutes early) for respective shifts to ensure that class begins on time.
  5. Promote other classes and make necessary announcements.
  6. Communicate effectively with participants, other staff, and supervisor.
  7. Make sure equipment is put away in its proper storage area after each class.
  8. Provide a high quality of customer service in a professional manner to the internal customer that will facilitate team building and exceptional customer service to the external customer.
  9. Follow the Wheaton Park District and Parks Plus Fitness Center policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  10. Proactively support the V.A.L.U.E.S. (integrity, fun, commitment, adaptability and growth, kindness, and service) on a daily basis.
  11. Maintain good safety awareness and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, ETC

Must have and maintain: current CPR/AED certification and an A.C.E., A.F.A.A., or N.D.E.I.T.A., or comparable national group fitness certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to: frequently move about the fitness facility, occasionally move items such as a spin bike, etc. weighing up to 50 lbs. and over 50 lbs. with assistance. This position must be able to position ones’ self to move items from the floor to overhead and grasp objects such as when demonstrating the use of equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Must be able to: consistently work in a fitness center environment and may be exposed to dust, odors, and cleaning chemicals; aware of hazardous situations which could cause a safety concern for participants which could include but is not limited to: water on the floor, sticky floors due to humidity, items in the fitness area, tripping hazard, etc.

SALARY

$20.00 - $25.00 DOQ

HOURS

Please note: This is a part-time position with flexible hours. The Group Fitness Instructor may need to substitute for other instructors on occasion.
